An astronomical phenomenon has been spotted above the skies of Florida State. People have witnessed the event so much that they even reported the fireball to the meteor organization.
Fireball over Florida
This astronomical event was all about a meteor that caught fire when it entered our orbit. The fireball zipped across the sky of Florida, and many people were able to enjoy the scene.
The event was reported to the International Meteor Organisation (IMO). In this article, we are going to discuss this beautiful astronomical show.
The phenomenon was also recorded, revealing a fireball zipping from the sky before it slowly breaks down piece by piece out above the horizon.
What is a fireball?
A fireball is actually a meteor that looks very bright to the human eye. When a meteor or even an asteroid enters our atmosphere, it catches fire because of the air.
Eventually, the atmosphere will cause the space rock to explode. The air in our atmosphere causes the meteor to meet resistance, which then slowly breaks it apart.
Here’s the message from IMO regarding astronomical fireballs: “Fireballs are meteors that appear brighter than normal. Due to the velocity at which they strike the Earth’s atmosphere, fragments larger than one millimeter has the capability to produce a bright flash as they streak through the heavens above.”
“These bright meteors are what we call fireballs, and they often strike fear and awe for those who witness them,” the institution added.
At the moment, no asteroid is dangerous for life on Earth
The possibility of an actual asteroid impact is very minimal. Usually, only pieces of an asteroid enter our planet’s atmosphere, which then becomes smaller and smaller.
However, NASA has prepared the last line of defense in case of a potentially hazardous situation.
The space agency is already testing a spacecraft that will collide with a space rock to divert its trajectory. Some people in Florida have witnessed such a bright fireball in the night sky for the first time in their lives.
