New Research Says that the Bacteria from Seafood Is Immune to Antibiotics

Many studies and researches are trying to show how humans and animals are affected by various bacteria in foods. The problem begins when the bacteria are starting to be immune to the antibiotics we use as medication. The global public health is under threat because of the diseases people could get from food. The theme of the study is the seafood and the seawater.

The history of humanity with the antibiotics is dating from 1982 when Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin. Since then, humans begin to use medicines in a large segment of diseases and microorganisms. However, excessive use is leading to all sorts of organisms that are beginning to be immune to the drugs. This is the case of seafood nowadays.

As the population of the world grows higher, the need for food grows as well. So in the case of seafood, aquaculture appeared. Unfortunately, in time, the farmers began to use antibiotics on their seafood culture to avoid mortality. Shortly, the seafood started to become resistant to the drugs, which leads to various threats for humans.

New Research Says that the Bacteria from Seafood Is Immune to Antibiotics

Scientists started to question, analyze, and research for answers about the seafood being resistant to bacteria and what type. So, the scientists studied the bacteria Aeromonas hydrophila present in the seawaters and seafood. The bacteria are dangerous to people and are immune to vancomycin, novobiocin, streptomycin, and gentamycin.

Another bacteria resistant to antibiotics is Vibrio, which causes gastroenteritis. The type of seafood that is immune to the medicine is different species of fish, shrimps, clams, oysters, and mussels.

To sum up, the use of antibiotics should be cut off because of the negative impact they have on the seafood and after that on humans. The governments, agencies, and scientists should reach an awareness of this critical health issue.
