Shrek 5 reboot is on its way to us, and we are so excited about the fifth movie! There were a lot of rumors claiming that the movie has been canceled and that we won’t get the fifth movie. But the film was officially announced back in 2015, and the makers have worked on it ever since.
NBCUniversal has taken over Dreamworks studio, thing that delayed the movie, but it was definitely not canceled. NBC has a lot of plans for Shrek, and they want to reboot it in order to fit the modern audience. The pre-production has already started, and the filming will also begin soon. They want to release the movie in 2022.
All we know so far
It seems that the fifth movie will be completely different from the other four movies. They hired Michael McCuller in order to take over the script for Shrek 5 and give it a new storyline. This will be a reboot and not a direct sequel. This means that they won’t continue the storyline, but that they will have the same main characters and a new story, which will be set in the same universe.
Michael McCullers stated: “I finished that script, and it’s really personal to me, and it’s got a pretty big reinvention behind it that I guess I can’t really reveal.”
Rumor has it, and the new movie will be set in a modern-day timeline, where they will have to deal with our everyday life.
So when is the release date?
As stated before, the pre-production has started, and everything will go according to the schedule. All of the changes to the script will be done before they start filming – that will happen near the end of 2020. The pandemic will not affect the movie production since it’s an animated movie, and most of the shots are done inside the studio with the help of motion-capture performance. The movie is set to be released in September 2022.
